Pet deworming

Importance of pet deworming

Parasites are the biggest enemy of pet health. They can not only cause skin diseases and digestive problems, but also seriously endanger life. Although traditional deworming methods have certain effects, they often cannot completely eliminate parasites inside and outside the body. Regular medical deworming can protect the health of pets more comprehensively through professional medical means.

一. Common parasites in pets

Pet parasites are generally divided into two categories: internal parasites and external parasites.

Common internal parasites

To put it simply, pet internal parasites are parasites that live inside the pet's body.

Common pet internal parasites include roundworms, tapeworms, hookworms, heartworms, flukes, etc.

roundworms:

Ascaris is the most common parasite in pets. It mainly parasitizes in the intestines of pets and is a zoonotic parasite. Ascaris is a light yellow nematode with a large and long body, a cylindrical body, and thinner front and back ends. Symptoms are generally weight loss, loss of appetite, vomiting, and developmental delay in pets. If a large number of parasites are found, it can cause intestinal obstruction or bile duct obstruction. Ascaris can also secrete a variety of toxins, causing neurological symptoms and allergic reactions. The larvae move in the body and enter the heart, lungs, throat, etc. through the blood. They may also enter the liver, brain and spinal cord, etc., causing serious symptoms.

Diagnosis: Microscopic examination of feces, if eggs are found, infection is confirmed.

Tapeworms:

Tapeworms are also a common infectious disease in pets. Tapeworm larvae can infect humans and are very harmful. The body of tapeworms is ribbon-shaped and consists of a head segment, a neck and multiple body segments. Of course, different species have different segments, some have only one, and some have hundreds. The symptoms are generally not too obvious, mainly chronic enteritis, diarrhea, vomiting, indigestion, etc.

Cut off: The excreted segments and oocysts are found during the identification.

Florades:

The more common one is lung flukes, which can also parasitize in other organs such as the liver. It is a zoonotic parasite. Flukes mainly feed on blood and tissues and have a long lifespan of up to 20 years. Symptoms are coughing, wheezing, fever, and even epilepsy, paralysis and other problems.

Diagnosis: Microscopic examination to check whether there are eggs in the feces.

Heartworms:

A terrible parasite that eventually parasitizes the heart of pets. As the number of parasites in the heart increases, it is likely to cause blockage of large blood vessels, directly leading to the death of the pet.

In addition, heartworms like to hang out in various organs during their larval stage. If they enter an organ and cannot get out, they will reproduce in this organ.

External parasites

Pet external parasites are thought to be on the surface of the body, and they can be seen by careful inspection, so prevention and control is still possible.

Common external parasites of pets include: fleas, ticks, lice, mites, etc., all of which are famous.

Fleas:
Fleas are an external parasite that lives on the skin of pets and are zoonotic parasites. Fleas are generally brown-black and small in size, but have a strong jumping ability. They can jump to a height of 33 cm and a distance of 30 cm. Fleas' reproductive capacity: If you see 1 flea on your pet, there are at least 99% of fleas in the breeding environment. Fleas can spread malignant infectious diseases such as plague.

Symptoms: Cats scratch frequently and in severe cases, they will scratch the bites.

Ticks:

The adult body of a tick is 2 to 10 mm long. When full of blood, it swells like a red bean or castor bean, and the largest can be up to 30 mm long. It has a special way of sucking blood, which is to bite a hole and put almost the whole body into it to suck blood. Ticks can spread dozens of serious diseases, and there are several diseases that have no specific medicine so far.

Mites:

The most common mite is ear mites, a parasite that cannot be completely driven out even after repeated tug-of-war. Because ear mites parasitize in the ear, usually near the middle ear, which is a very soft and fragile inner ear, it is too difficult to deal with. In addition to ear mites, there are also scabies. Scabies is a very small oval (actually close to round) parasite with four pairs of legs. It lives in the skin of pets and bites out tunnels to live.

In terms of symptoms, ear mites are difficult to find. Generally, they are more serious when they are found, and there will be a lot of secretions in otitis media. Scabies is relatively easy to find, with erythema, small nodules, skin flakes, scabs, etc. on the skin.

二. Pet deworming

Deworming of internal parasites

The deworming of pets’ internal parasites mainly involves taking internal parasite medicines. The most common medicines for killing internal parasites are tablets.

Just give it to the pet orally. If the pet does not eat, you need to use a medicine feeder.

External parasite deworming

External parasite deworming is mainly external drops or sprays. The drops are usually dripped on the skin surface between the two shoulder blades of the pet.

Kill environmental parasites immediately

It is not enough to just kill the parasites on your pet’s body, because many parasites actually lay eggs in the living environment. Even the larvae of some parasites live in the environment, such as fleas. And some parasites have a large proportion in the environment, and fleas are 95% likely in the environment. If you don’t completely kill the parasites in the environment, even if you kill all the parasites on your pet, the parasites will return to your pet.
